H7b1 Adds Advanced
EU Autocoding Technology
to its Switzerland-based
EDD Processing Center
WASHINGTON, D.C., United States
& GENEVA, Switzerland, (October 7, 2006) -
H7b1 (www.h7b1.com), the Swiss firm innovating litigation
technology practice in Europe, today unveils a breakthrough
in international litigation support, with the introduction
of an advanced autocoding technology to support European
Union legal specificities such as data privacy protection,
multilingual management and criminal proceedings in
civil-law context.
The term "document coding" is used
by litigation support professionals to designate the
process by which a document is indexed against a functional
category, such as the date, author or document type.
As a simple example, if the documents of a database
are indexed against the date and the document type,
the lawyer working on the evidence set will immediately
be able to retrieve all the reports from a specific
date or date range. "Document autocoding" is the process
by which advanced data mining and categorization utilities
perform an automatic coding of the documents prior
to human quality control and finalization.
Confirming European Litigation
Technology Leadership
The H7b1 autocoding solution was
successfully developed, tested and implemented in
2005 to support in Europe a corporation facing the
need of an intercontinental document production, while
needing to comply with the data privacy protection
regulations of its country, a member state of the
European Union. The data privacy autocoding solution
has since been extended by the H7b1 Technology Laboratory
to include other European-specific coding needs, and
integrated in the EDD conversion center operated by
H7b1 in Switzerland.
The H7b1 autocoding solution delivers
in Concordance, Opticon, FYI and IPRO View, the popular
litigation support and document management products
from Dataflight Software, Inc. and IPRO Tech, Inc.
Empowering the European Legal
Community
A typical autocoding solution can
reduce 80 % to 98 % of the human coding effort, thus
bringing a considerable improvement of the case risk
profile and making the coding process a cost-effective
solution for law firms in Europe, even in large cases
involving data protection sensitive legal matters.
"We felt a great responsibility
to provide the European legal community with an autocoding
solution that is truly geared towards the typical
legal requirements applicable on the Continent,"
said Rafik E. Abboud, Partner and Chief Technology
Architect for H7b1. "With the addition of this
EU autocoding technology to our already advanced Geneva
EDD Processing Center, our clients will continue to
gain cutting edge advantages in their legal proceedings,
and specifically in their litigation and arbitration
matters." he added.
